Northern Invasion: Can Canada Capitalize On U.S. Legalization?

The early bird should, theoretically, always get the worm. With a generous head start on legalization as of Oct. 17, all signs pointed to Canada leading the charge on legal cannabis. For all of the setbacks and could-have-beens, the land of maple syrup and Ryan Reynolds had this one in the bag.

Then reality set in.

Amid initial long delivery times, product shortages, limited licensed outlets and a safety-conscious stronghold on branding and packaging, it raises questions on whether the North can still use its early-mover status to capitalize on U.S. legalization – or be consumed by it.
